Festival Background
Welcome to the Johnny Cash Music Festival website!
Ever since she was a child, Founder Jacque Murphy has been a fan of Johnny Cash. As she says, “Who isn’t?” Johnny’s music appeals to generations of fans and continues to gain in popularity. “I’m just a fan”, says Jacque. She teamed up with Co-Founder Ross Emery, local musician and local business owner to create an event to celebrate Johnny Cash and pay tribute to the Man in Black. The dream was to have an old fashioned, hip and modern music festival. No other man’s music could achieve all of that, except the one and only, Mr. Johnny Cash.
We’ve put together the best Johnny Cash cover bands in the business to pay a fitting tribute to Ventura’s most beloved and famous former county resident. Ventura’s very own “The Mighty Cash Cats”, local favorites “Big River”, and all the way from Folsom, “The Cash Prophets” and from Hollywood, “Petty Cash”, and “With a Bible and A Gun”, have been booked. From the movie “Walk the Line”, we’ve got special guest, Larry Bagby.
To turn this concert into a festival we’ve added a “One Piece at a Time” Hot Rod Car show. The Derby Darlin’s will be skating in the “Rink of Fire”. We are having “Pin-up Girl” and “Rock-a-Billy Babe” contests, the fans pick the winners. Add one hundred vendors, food and beverages and we’ve got the biggest event to kick off the summer and celebrate Father’s Day.
